Saturday, May 26

Ok, we woke up and packed up the rental car. Got on the road by about 11am. This was really good compared to our normal scenario, where we don't get started until sometime between 2 and 4pm - we're doing good!
The drive out was good in that there were no great traffic problems. The drive to Harriman, where Diana's brother, Sammy, lives takes about 7 hours. I read to Diana while she drove the first handful of hours. I also napped for the last hour. Then we took dinner at a roadside Cracker Barrel, and I took over driving the rest of the way. The mountains between NC and TN are always lovely.
We got to Sam's place at around 6:30pm.
Harriman is a small town, about 45 minutes west of Knoxville, and Sam lives just outside the town, so it is quite rural. He has a modest, pleasant 2-bedroom 1-car garage home in a Tennessee hollow, on about a half acre of land. Behind the home is the other side of the hollow, and the land rises quickly after about 40 feet. On the left and right sides of the back, Sam has installed a wood fence, so the backyard is wonderfully private.
